Diffusion as a leading dissipative mechanism in superconducting neutron stars

چکیده

Despite the fact that different particle species can diffuse with respect to each other in neutron star (NS) cores, effect of diffusion on various phenomena associated NS oscillations is usually ignored. Here we demonstrate be extremely powerful dissipative mechanism superconducting NSs. In particular, it much more efficient than shear and bulk viscosities. This result has important implications for damping times oscillations, development saturation dynamical instabilities NSs, excitation coupling oscillation modes during late inspiral binary

Superconducting Superfluids in Neutron Stars

For treatment of the layers below the crust of a neutron star it is useful to employ a relativistic model involving three independently moving constituents, representing superfluid neutrons, superfluid protons, and degenerate negatively charged leptons. A Kalb Ramond type formulation is used here to develop such a model for the specific purpose of application at the semi macroscopic level chara...

Magnetohydrodynamics in Superconducting-Superfluid Neutron Stars

MHD equations are presented for the mixture of superfluid neutrons, superconducting protons, and normal electrons believed to exist in the outer cores of neutron stars. The dissipative effects of electron viscosity and mutual friction due to electron-vortex scattering are also included. It is shown that Alfvén waves are replaced by cyclotronvortex waves that have not been previously derived fro...

Waves and instabilities in dissipative rotating superfluid neutron stars

We discuss wave propagation in rotating superfluid neutron star cores, taking into account the vortex mediated mutual friction force. For models where the two fluids co-rotate in the unperturbed state, our analysis clarifies the role of chemical coupling and entrainment for sound and inertial waves. We also investigate the mutual friction damping, providing results that demonstrate the well-kno...

Viscous Dissipative Effects in White Dwarfs and Neutron Stars

When a differentially rotating magnetic star undergoes “turn-over”, i.e., its magnetic symmetry axis is inclining at a gradually increasing angle with respect to its invariant angular momentum axis up to the perpendicular position (situation known as “perpendicular rotator”), the poloidal magnetic field causes interchange of angular momentum via hydromagnetic Alfven waves propagating along the ...

Ginzburg-Landau equations for superconducting quark matter in neutron stars

We investigate magnetic properties of color superconducting quark matter within a Ginzburg-Landau approach. The simultaneous coupling of the quark fields to gluonic and electromagnetic gauge fields leads to rotated electromagnetism with a massive (Higgsed) and a massless photon-gluon field. We derive the Ginzburg-Landau equations for superconducting quark matter taking into account the rotated ...
